(SINGING) Time brought you to me.
I [INAUDIBLE].
You look past my scars.
Now all time is ours.
Comes a time in your life you've got to let the sunshine in. Comes a time in your life you've got to let the sunshine win 'Cause you're my sunshine. You are my sun, sunshine. You are my sunshine. You are my sunshine. You are my sun, sunshine. You are my sunshine.
You wrote out all the stars, Left me feeling shocked. How could one love me so? You just smiled and you showed me. Comes a time in your life you've got to let the sunshine in. Comes a time in your life you've got to let the sunshine win 'Cause you're my sunshine. You are my sun, sunshine. You are my sunshine. You are my sunshine. You are my sun, sunshine. You are my sunshine.
And when those clouds come rolling in, try to take my sunshine away, I just look them in the face, try to see them in a positive way 'Cause you're my sunshine. You are my sun, sunshine. You are my sunshine. You are my sunshine. You are my sun, sunshine. You are my sunshine.
You are my sunshine. You are my sun, shine. You are my sunshine. You are my sunshine. You are my sun, sun, sun sunshine.
Welcome back to Mormon Channel Studio. I'm your host, Yahosh Bonner, and you've just heard an original song by Madelyn Hosch called "Sun Sunshine." Thanks so much for being with us today. Thank you. Now, did you write that song? Yes, I did. Can you tell us a little bit about what inspired it? I think that basically what inspired that song is the fact that we all have challenges, we all have trials, but we can see the sunshine in our lives. And probably one of the most specific parts that talks about that is the bridge that says when the clouds come in trying to take away my sunshine, you have to see them in a positive way. And so it's all about positivity and getting closer to God. That's great. I felt sunshine beaming all through me when I heard that. Wow, so how long have you been doing what you're doing? You're very unique. I love your tone. And you're playing--is it a ukulele? Yeah. How long have you been doing this? It started when I was a sophomore in high school, so it's been about eight years or so. Wow, I really love it. Now, who is your musical inspiration? Who are some of the artists that you kind of look to to create what you do? Well, I really love Regina Spektor. She's so original, and she never strays from who she is. But she always gets her message across. She's never been pulled in a direction she doesn't want to go. That's great. That's great. Now, you write other songs as well. Yes. And do most of your songs come from personal experience? Or where do you get your inspiration on your songwriting? Well, usually it's personal or I have a message that I feel passionate about. And when I get caught up in the lyrics or the message, it just happens, and I feel like it's such a blessing that I can write music. Great. Well, Madelyn, that was awesome. You're going to sing another song for us, right? Yes. What is that song? It's called "Help Me Teach with Inspiration." Why did you choose that song? So it's kind of a classic from my mission because on my mission, I had the Hymns Made Easy songbook. And I had my ukulele, which sometimes we would go contacting with. But after all of our planning was over and we had a little bit of downtime at the end of the day, my mission companions would always be like, "Sing me a song," or "Remix a song." And before my mission, I didn't really know a lot of hymns. And so I kind of had to make it up or kind of come up with my own style. So this is also about asking the Lord for inspiration. And I think even throughout all stages of life, we can ask the Lord for inspiration. Awesome, awesome. And this is an original arrangement? Yes. Great. Where did you serve? I served in Taiwan, Taipei. Wow. Awesome. Well, thank you so much for being here. And take it away. Thank you so much.
[MUSIC - "HELP ME TEACH WITH INSPIRATION"]
(SINGING) Help me teach with inspiration; Grant this blessing, Lord, I pray.
Help me lift a soul's ambition To a higher, nobler way.
[NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] Fill my mind with understanding; Tune my voice to echo thine, echo thine. Touch my hand with gentle friendship; Warm my heart with love divine.
Help me find thy lambs who wander; Help me bring them to thy keep.
Teach me, Lord, to be a shepherd; Father, help me feed thy sheep.
