“I’m trying to be like Jesus, I’m following in His ways.” You probably know the words to this popular children’s Primary song, written for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Janice Kapp Perry in 1980, but you have never seen it sung like this before.
When you watch Emily Brown, a singer-songwriter from California, preform for a crowd of strangers in a café, the song will touch you in an entirely new way.
“The pure truths we hear in Primary songs are powerful enough to touch anyone, so that’s the idea behind the video—Jesus Christ loves everyone, everywhere, and was a perfect example of that love,” says producer Charlotte Keneipp. “We just want to tell people about that truth in a whole new way so that they can feel it too.”
The song was inspired by the book of John, chapter 13, verses 15 and 34. In this part of the New Testament, Christ is washing the feet of His disciples at the Last Supper, near the end of His life on earth. As He is preforming this act of kindness and humility for them, He encourages them to follow Him.
“For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. … A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.“
