Prayer is a sacred gift given to us by our loving Heavenly Father. It is how we tell Him about our days, express gratitude for our blessings, and ask for peace and guidance in our trials. We must constantly speak to our Heavenly Father in prayer and then listen for our answers.
We have been given the key to successful communication with God: “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened” (Luke 11:9–10).
Recognizing Answers to Your Prayers
Elder Richard G. Scott said that God answers our prayers in three ways:
Most often the Lord provides small answers through promptings from the Spirit during times when the Spirit can touch your heart and mind. He uses the Spirit to give gentle promptings that call for you to ponder, exercise your faith, and act.
Living according to God’s teachings and the teachings of His apostles and prophets allows you to have the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost, which is the best way to recognize answers to your prayers.
