Happy Families: Dinner is Served

February 23, 2015

It is taco night at Mormon Channel. Conni Chavez, of the latest Happy Familiesepisode, shared her tried-and-true recipes for beef or chicken tacos and fresh salsa. Put them together for a meal that is as easy as it is delicious. We have desert covered too—their chocolate cake will make your mouth water. Trust us, when it comes to recipes, the Chavez family has great taste (pardon the pun).

Single mom Conni and her four kids have been cooking together for years. It is one of the ways they stay connected and happy.

“Our favorite types of foods are dinner and breakfast items, and we also love baked goods,” Conni says.

What sets their favorite dessert apart? Some chocolate pudding, a few chocolate chips, and fresh whipped cream do the trick. See the card at the bottom of this post for the full recipe.

“Super yummy and super easy,” she says. “My ten-year-old can make it.”

Conni has found that involving children in daily chores like cooking does more than just teach skills. It also strengthens relationships.

“The biggest thing to remember is little ones want to be with you,” she advises. “They want to learn from you. If you can remember that patience pays more than efficiency when involving them in day-to-day tasks the benefits will be amazing!”

Print the recipe cards below to try them out for yourself. Bon appétit.
