Conversations: J. Phillip and Dawn Hanks

January 7, 2016

It doesn’t get  much more interesting than this Conversations episode with J. Phillip Hanks and his wife, Dawn. The Hankses have dedicated their lives to serving in the Church, which has taken them to Samoa, Ukraine, and Germany and has provided them with some interesting and inspiring experiences.

Both Brother and Sister Hanks were originally from farms in southern Idaho. They met very young and fell in love. The two were engaged shortly before Brother Hanks got called on a three-year mission, and were married two weeks after he returned.

Since then, Brother Hanks has been heavily involved with the Church Educational System. He and Dawn were first sent to Samoa as teachers, and then they returned a few years later as a mission president and wife, at the age of 28. In this episode the couple shares a humorous story of how that call came about.

BrotherHanks also talks about continuing his education, teaching seminary and institute, serving as stake president, and overcoming stomach cancer, which was quite the miracle for the family of 13.

The couple’s adventures continued when they were sent back to Samoa, then to Ukraine, then to Germany, and then back to Samoa to serve in the temple.

Brother and Sister Hanks have many unique and inspiring experiences to share. It is a delight to hear them talk, not only about their experiences but also about their faith in the Savior and in His “infinite but individual” Atonement.
