Usually, you are your biggest critic. And sometimes you can also be your own worst enemy.
You may think that God is withholding blessings from you, but He’s not. God wants to shower you with blessings every day. You are the only person who can block yourself from receiving His daily blessings.
How You’re Unknowingly Blocking God’s Daily Blessings
President Dieter F. Uchtdorf once said: “Part of our challenge is, I think, that we imagine that God has all of His blessings locked in a huge cloud up in heaven, refusing to give them to us unless we comply with some strict, paternalistic requirements He has set up. … In reality, Heavenly Father is constantly raining blessings upon us. It is our fear, doubt, and sin that, like an umbrella, block these blessings from reaching us.”
Fear obstructs you from experiencing a happy life filled with God’s blessings. If you’re afraid to try something new, get a new job, or commit to a relationship, you’ll never know what blessings you’ll receive from taking that leap of faith.
The Lord tells us to “doubt not, fear not” (Doctrine and Covenants 6:36). If you doubt that God loves you and wants to bless you, you may not believe something good in your life is from Him.
God cannot bless you if you’re continually choosing to disobey His commandments and live a life of sin. And it’s not just big sins that matter; a sin is a sin no matter its size, and one consequence of sinning is not receiving God’s daily blessings.
Pride tricks you into believing you can do everything on your own. It makes you self-centered and causes you to trust yourself instead of trusting God.
Negative thoughts and words are powerful. Negativity can keep you from noticing God’s blessings.
How to Receive God’s Daily Blessings
If you want to receive God’s daily blessings, you have to do the opposite of these five things.
Elder Neil L. Andersen reminds us, “Fear and faith cannot coexist in our hearts at the same time.” So choose faith over fear. You also need to humble yourself, repent of your sins, and be positive.
President Uchtdorf also tells us, “To qualify for these glorious blessings, you must … exercise faith, take upon you the name of Christ, seek Him in word and deed, and resolutely ‘stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places.’”
If you feel God is withholding blessings, make sure you’re not unknowingly blocking them. Daily quotes about blessings can help remind you of His love for you. Quotes such as “When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost, count your many blessings; name them one by one” (“Count Your Blessings,” Hymns, no. 241) can encourage and uplift you.
